How does nanotech work? and how is it made? Can i make nanotech easily?

I have a project that I am passionate for, and I want to find a way to build nanotech that can be compressed into a handheld device, and on command have them release and sort of make an armor on you. Is there an easy way to accomplish this? Another thing is sort of an energy sword which I compare to something from Megaman Zero or any of that from Megaman? lmao. But is it possible to create this?
